Des de sempre, el grup de recerca ha estat interessat a estudiar com els transposons interactuen amb el genoma eucariota, i com aquestes interaccions contribueixen en l’evolució. Darrerament, la recerca que s’hi duu a terme s’ha centrat a entendre com ha evolucionat la complexitat reguladora. És per això que el laboratori ha participat en el desenvolupament d’eines genètiques per a dos organismes eucariotes unicel·lulars, el Corallochytrium limacisporum i l’Abeoforma whisleri. Un de les línies de recerca actuals del laboratori és desxifrar l’origen dels elements reguladors i com els transposons contribueixen a regular el genoma en els organismes eucariotes unicel·lulars.
