Deciphering the human genome has represented the access to privileged and unique information of each one of us. Today, many biomedical research projects use this information to progress in the knowledge of disease. Barcelona hosts the European Genome-phenome Archive (EGA) that comprises a large amount of genetic data from research projects around the world and makes all this information available to the scientific community.

Sharing these genetic data among research groups allows saving resources, having access to a large number of data and progressing in research. But, who should have access? To what extent can we speak of personalized medicine? Do legislation and society keep pace with research? Are we truly prepared for this progress?

These questions and more will be discussed during the "CRG Scientific Coffee: EGA, a library for future medicine?" In order to enrich the discussion and have the view of experts in the ethical and scientific aspects of the management of genomic data, the coffee will count with the participation of:

- Arcadi Navarro, director of the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences at UPF, principal investigator at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (CSIC-UPF), and leader of the EGA team at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG).

- Itziar de Lecuona, Public Health teacher at the University of Barcelona and researcher at the Bioethics and Lau Observatory.

When? On Tuesday, 15 December of 2015, from 19:00 to 20:30 h.

Where? Room "la Cuina" from the Bonnemaison Space (Sant Pere Més Baix, 7, 08003 Barcelona)

Free event - No suscription recquired - Limited capacity

With the support of: Cultural Institute from the Barcelona City Council, Severo Ochoa Excellence About the scientific coffees It is an activity periodically organized by the Center for Genomic Regulation that seeks for the establishment of an open dialogue with society on current issues related to science and research dialogue.
