This article is a review on all new developments on Neandertal paleogenomics published at a special issue at the journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London and dedicated to the first 30 years of the ancient DNA.

As an anecdote, this is the same journal where Newton published in 1671 his paper on the difraction of light.
