We provide a new method to fully compare traits with only partially overlapping datasets, a usual situation that sometimes leads to poor analyses. This may be applied to morphological and genetic markers, for example, but actually works with any number and type of traits for which bidimensional configurations can be obtained. We hope the method opens new possibilities for data mining and for meta-analyses combining existing data sets in biogeography, systematics and ecology.
