The scientific structure of the IBE is composed by twenty-four research labs organised in five scientific programmes:

The IBE Scientific Advisory Board (CEE) committee iscomposed by 7 scientific experts with International recognition in the Evolutionary Biology field. Its main task will be to help the IBE in the definition of new research lines and strategies and in the best ways to recruit talent and widen the scientific strength of the Institute.

Good practices and scientific integrity
The IBE, as all other centers in PRBB has adhered to codes of good scientific practice which set out the norms and quality standards expected of a scientist today. In concrete: The Code of Good Scientific Practice of the PRBB, the Montreal statement and the Singapore statement. Furthermore, A cross-institute working group has been established to share learning and good practice in scientific integrity amongst the centres (email@example.com). PhD students mentoring program
The mentoring program is an opportunity for the students to interact and rely on scientists that are not directly involved in their PhD work, to obtain an objective analysis of their performance and personal growth. During their PhD, the students meet once a year with the committee. Before the meeting. the student and PIs independently answer a confidential questionnaire designed to detect possible misalignments in their professional expectations, progress, or relationship. The committee analyses the answers and, after meeting with both PI and students separately, suggests recommendations to improve the quality of their performance and professional relationship.
The IBE Diversity Committee was created in the spring of 2015 with the philosophy that diversity enhances performance and creativity and it is therefore, desirable in any working environment. At IBE we endorse diversity in all aspects and we are actively working to increase it with specific actions, so far focused specially in increasing gender balance. Since its foundation, the Diversity Committee has worked to 1) disseminate the importance of diversity to the IBE community, 2) analyze the situation at IBE, and 3) propose specific measures to correct those tendencies that are negative.
Thanks to measures proposed by this committee the IBE external committee has now 2 female researchers when it had none before, and the rate of female speakers in our IBE seminars went from 19% in 2013 to 50% in 2017. Moreover, in 2017, we organized a gender awareness day, Women in Evolution, which mixed state of the art science made by highly recognized female scientist with a debate on gender bias in science.
The IBE student group is an organization formed by all PhD and Master students conducting research at IBE. It was created in 2012 to provide the IBE student community with a forum for students to share their experience and express their worries, and also to actively contribute to our doctoral training, and to ensure adequate working conditions for current and future students.
- Representation, to be a common voice for the student community;
- Integration, by establishing active communication channels within the different areas of the institute and introducing new student to the institute, its members and its organization;
- Participation, enhancing active participation in the institute's activities and taking part in some of the institute's decisions;
- Education, by organizing courses, book/journal clubs, seminars, and symposia.
The IBE Student Group holds regular monthly meetings, and has two student representatives (elected annually, gender-balanced). IBE Student Group Representatives as of 2018: Clàudia Fontserè and Aitor Serres.
