Jesús Lozano , former IBE PhD student , wins the Societat Catalana de Biologia Award to Young Researcher
Jesús won the award for his Docoral thesis entitled “Mecanisme d’acció de l’hormona juvenil en la metamorfosi dels insectes”, which was carried out at IBE at the Evolution of Insect Metamorphosis Lab and directed by Xavier Bellés.
In his thesis, Jesus provides an evolutionary context for the transition from hemimetabola to holometabola metamorphosis. For this research, he used the model organism Blattella germanica to study the molecular characterization of the juvenile hormone-receptor complex. His work stands out among the others because of the structure of the study, the proposal and the development of the objectives, the techniques applied, and the quality of the results obtained, which have been published in scientific journals with high impact.
The Award consists of a financial prize of 500€.
