Of the 65 fellowships awarded in the 2020 edition of the programme, 3 Retaining and 1 Incoming will fund IBE PhD Students. Adrián Talavera will carry out his doctorate in the laboratory of Systematics, Biogeography and Evolution of Reptiles and Amphibians, directed by Salvador Carranza, and the Comparative Genomics lab, led by Tomàs Marquès-Bonet. "During my doctorate I will study the diversification of Iberian vipers and analyse the origin and evolution of their poisons", says Talavera.

Harvinder Kaur Pawar and Marc Palmada will join the Comparative Genomics lab, led by Tomàs Marquès-Bonet. "I will study the evolution of gene regulation in humans and non-human primates", Pawar says. For its part, Palmada comments that "during my PhD I will study genomic assembly using information from different animals within the Comparative Genomics Laboratory".

In addition to the financial support, the "La Caixa" Doctoral INPhINIT fellowship includes a training programme on transversal skills, which has been specially designed by leading international institutions in the sector. This programme includes aspects such as technology transfer, entrepreneurship, commercialisation of innovation, intellectual property, leadership, creativity, communication skills, teamwork, personal development, planning, assertiveness and networking.
