New butterfly discovered in Europe for first time in 20 years

IBE scientist that led the study have named the new butterfly Spialia rosae because it nests and feeds from wild roses. The discovery has been possible thanks to the combination of cutting edge technology and  ecology fieldwork. News in Catalan.

Science and art come together in an exhibition on the mediaeval Book of Beasts

June saw the opening of the exhibition “Bestiary” by the painter Perico Pastor and scientist Xavier Bellés in the church of Sant Miquel in La Seu d’Urgell. “Bestiary” comprises 44 panels with images of some of the most representative animals of the Middle Ages as well as explanations of their symbolism.

Tomàs Marquès-Bonet appointed as Vice-Director of IBE

The change was formally approved by the IBE Exectuive Board in February and the Board of Trustees in April. Along with Prof. Xavier Bellés, Tomàs Marquès-Bonet is therefore the second member of IBE's directorate and becomes a member of the IBE Executive Board.
