The IBE Diversity Committee is organizing the session “How to respond to a case of sexual harassment in a mixed CSIC research center”, with diversity specialists and aimed at the entire IBE community, including both CSIC and UPF staff.
Additionally, between #11F and #8M (International Women’s Day), IBE researchers will visit schools to share their personal experiences as STEM scientists and present their current research.
11F: “How to respond to a case of sexual harassment in a mixed CSIC research center”
On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, IBE will organize the event "How to respond to a case of sexual harassment in a mixed CSIC research center" on February 11, from 11:00 to 13:30, in the auditorium of the CMIMA building.
The initiative, that is organized by the coordinators of the IBE Diversity Committee, Pilar Rodriguez and Daniel Richter, aims to guide staff at mixed centers of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) on the procedures to follow in the event of sexual or gender-based harassment occurring within the workplace.
The training will focus especially on the particular situations that may arise in mixed centers, where staff from two or more institutions interact.
During the session, gender, equality, and diversity officers from two mixed CSIC centers in Barcelona—IBE (CSIC-UPF) and IBB (CSIC-Ajuntament de Barcelona)—will participate with presentations and a roundtable analyzing case studies.
The speakers include Barbara Biglia, Associate Professor at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV); Ana Orejas Brasero, Area Coordinator at the Deputy General Secretariat for Human Resources (SGARH) and Support to the CSIC Equality Commission Presidency; M.ª Carmen Artuñedo, from the CSIC Presidency, Commissioner for Promoting a Healthy and Safe Work Environment (COMSE); M. José González, Director of the Equality and Diversity Unit at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF); Gemma Verdejo, Equality Officer, Equality Department, Barcelona City Council; Daniel Richter and Pilar Rodríguez, coordinators of the IBE Diversity Committee, as hosts of the event.
The session will be held in Spanish to facilitate the participation of speakers coming from different regions of the country.
Based on the conclusions and observations of the meeting, a trilingual document (Catalan, Spanish, and English) will be prepared to serve as a guideline for responding to such cases.
Event: February 11, 11:00–13:30, CMIMA Auditorium. Consult the program here:
IBE female scientists visit schools for 11F and 8M
Between #11F and #8M (International Women’s Day), IBE researchers will also visit schools to share their personal experiences as scientists and their current research.
Thanks to the IBE volunteers: Amanda Gutiérrez, postdoctoral researcher, and Lídia Altimiras, lab manager of the Comparative Genomics group; Alícia Aranda, lab technician of the Evolutionary Microbiology group; and Josefa Cruz, technician at the Evolutionary and Developmental Biology laboratory, this year the team will reach dozens of primary and secondary school students.
