In celebration of Biodiversity Day, the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE), a joint center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), is holding the third edition of BiodIBErsity Day—an interdisciplinary meeting aimed at addressing the challenges faced by the scientific community in the current biodiversity crisis and promoting planetary well-being.

Organized by the IBE's Biodiversity Program and funded by the DEEP-MaX-CSIC project, the event aims to foster collaboration among research centers to collectively tackle these global challenges.

Under the motto #BiodIBErsityDay2026, this multidisciplinary event, to be held on May 22, will bring together professionals in biology, evolution, ecology, conservation, environmental sciences, and related fields to address the future of biodiversity. Through nine talks and discussion sessions, participants will explore innovative solutions and effective strategies to confront environmental degradation and the accelerated loss of species and genetic diversity worldwide.

Researchers from IBE, together with collaborators from partner institutions such as the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM), the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE), the Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Institute of Parasitology (BC CAS, IP), the Institute for Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology (IBMCP, CSIC–UPV), the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA), the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB), the University of Valencia (UV), the Institute of Biology of Barcelona (IBB, CSIC-CMCNB), the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and the Centre for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications (CREAF) will present their work.

The event will also include several networking sessions designed to encourage interaction among participants and provide space for informal scientific discussion. Poster sessions will offer researchers the opportunity to showcase their latest findings.
