“Los genes de Lonesome George, una ayuda para comprender envejecimiento y cáncer”

Various media have covered the work published in "Nature Ecology & Evolution" contributed by Tomàs Marquès-Bonet, ICREA research professor and director of the IBE (UPF-CSIC).

04.12.2018

The study publishes the genome analysis of 'Lonesome George' - the last specimen of the Galápagos (Chelonoidis abingdonii) - and the tortoise of Aldabra (Aldabrachelys gigantea), the only living species of giant tortoise from the Indian Ocean.

Researchers have studied the ability of giant tortoises to grow old without developing cancer, a property that could be useful in the biomedical field.
